Descriptions

In one line

Your Mac keeps a record of where you've been. TrailSift finds it and clears it.

Short

TrailSift for Mac finds the record of where you've been that other cleaners miss: download logs, remembered networks, addresses, photo locations. Free audit.

Long

Your Mac keeps a quiet record of where you've been. macOS logs every file you download, with the address it came from, and leaves that address on the file itself. It remembers every Wi-Fi network you've joined, everyone you've emailed or messaged, and the words you've typed. Browsers keep lists of secure sites that survive clearing history, photos record where they were taken, and deleted apps leave their folders and startup items behind. Private browsing stops none of it.

TrailSift checks more than 30 of these places, reading only, and shows what's in each: how many, how big, from when, and what it is. Then it clears what you choose, after showing you exactly what will go. Files go to the Trash, databases are backed up for a week, and an app's data is only touched while that app is quit.

The audit, Photo Locations and the Hand Over This Mac checklist are free. TrailSift Pro, a one-time £15, $19 or €17, clears what you choose, removes apps with everything they keep, and adds the Clean Up Wizard, scheduled clean-ups and Word Search.

About Itch Studio

TrailSift is made by Itch Studio, a small independent studio in the UK that makes apps for Apple devices. It's sold directly from trailsift.com rather than through the Mac App Store, because the App Store's sandbox would stop it reading the places it checks.
